Damascus, SANA – Presidential Political and Media Advisor Dr. Bouthaina Shaaban said that the Syrian people’s steadfastness in the face of the terrorism that has been targeting it throughout the crisis established a new stage in the history of Syria, the region, and the world. In an interview given to the Syrian TV on Friday evening, Shaaban said that terrorism seeks to destroy Arab culture, identity, history, and civilization; therefore the coming stage must focus on preserving them. She said that President Bashar al-Assad speech which he delivered after being sworn in tackled the local, Arab, and international situation with honesty and transparency with the aim of building on new basis and changing thoughts, methods, and styles, and that the speech proposed solutions not just for Syria, but for the entire Arab world and emphasized independence of thought. Shaaban noted that the speech also referred to the role of internal media in asking questions and investigating what is actually happening, so that it may play an active part in combating corruption and improving the state, stressing that combating corruption should be by enhancing institutions and developing the sense of citizenship. She said that dialogue and reconciliations are important cornerstones for starting the next stage, and the multiple general amnesty decrees issued by President al-Assad are an expression of the desire for all Syrians to unite under the banner of the homeland and leave the hatred and grudges behind, asserting that reconciliation and dialogue are inevitable and necessary after any crisis and thus dialogue must be encouraged in all aspects. Shaaban concluded by saying that implementing what President al-Assad put forth in his speech requires diligent efforts, creative visions, new ideas, and boldness in being honest with oneself and with others.
