Damascus, SANA-Prime Minister Dr. Wael al-Halqi discussed by phone on Monday with Iran’s first Vice-President Isaac Jahangiri means of clearing obstacles before a flow of Iranian goods into the Syrian markets, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
The two sides exchanged congratulations during the phone call over the arrival of the holy fasting month of Ramadan and thrashed out cooperation prospects in the fields of electricity, health and water, as well as activating the Iranian credit line to Syria.
In July 2013, Syria and Iran signed a deal to activate an Iranian USD 3.6 billion credit line to buy oil products to prop up the Syrian economy.
The PM thanked the Iranian leadership and people for their support to the Syrians in the middle of a global war and the assistance they are providing for them to hold their ground against Western arrogance and hegemony which, he said, the Syrians will always be grateful for.
The two countries share a common interest of restoring security and stability to the region, al-Halqi added.
While renewing his call for Iranian companies to establish joint development projects during the reconstruction stage in Syria, the Premier said Syria and Iran are “in the same trench” against terrorism and takfiri ideology.
Jahangiri, for his part, spelled out his wishes for the Syrian government and people to live in security and peace, congratulating Syria for the success of June 3 presidential elections and the atmosphere of transparency and credibility that marked them.
The Iranian government is keenly interested in securing all necessary requirements for Syria to remain invincible in the face of terrorism, he added.
