Labor Minister: Western sanctions on Syria caused closure of hundreds of establishments

Geneva, SANA, Labor Minister Hassan Hijazi said Tuesday the terrorist continued war on Syria has caused huge economic, social and humanitarian damages that affected workers and employees in the tourist, agriculture and industrial sectors, as well it led to destruction of the biggest part of infrastructure.
“The western unfair economic sanctions imposed on the Syrian people have also caused the closure of hundreds of trade and industrial installations, which means increasing rate of unemployment,” the Minister said at the 103rd session of International Labor Conference being held in Geneva.
He wondered about the silence of International Labor Organization on the practices of armed terrorist groups and their supporters against the Syrian workers for more three years in spite of all crimes they have encountered at the hands of terrorists.
On a report submitted by Director General of International Labor Organization, Minister Hijazi said the Director didn’t refer to the visit of the Organization to the occupied Syrian Golan which shed light on the Israeli occupation practices of discrimination against the Syrian Arab labors in the salaries, compensations, taxes and holidays and other repressive procedures.
The 103rd session of International Labor Conference kicked off in Geneva on May 28th with the participation of Syria. It ends its session on June 14th.
