Tartous, SANA – A rich array of cultural activities are expected to attract audience to the Heritage Week which kicked off in Tartous on Sunday.
The four-day Week, held by Tartous Culture Directorate in cooperation with the Cultural Center in the coastal province, will include exhibitions to display folkloric and handicraft items and art works, as well as poetry and singing events, symposia and cultural heritage documentaries.
Head of the Cultural Center Mona Asaad clarified that the Heritage Week is meant “to promote the Syrian art and originality,” stressing the importance of preserving the folkloric heritage from oblivion.
The activities of the first day of the Week included screening a documentary on ancient Damascene souqs (markets) and inaugurating an exhibition of handicrafts. The art gallery showcased 35 pictures for 22 artists, who used different artistic techniques such as oil colors, acrylics and graphics.
A variety of cultural and tourist events we held in Tartous city recently, including Tartous Summer Festival 2014 which was held late last month on the beach of al-Sheraa Touristic Complex in the city.
The 6th edition of Phoenix Theatre Festival was also held recently on the corniche in city.
