Bangkok, SANA – Coach of Syria’s national under-16 football team Mohammed al-Attar said that the team has undergone intensive training and is quite prepared for the finals of the AFC Asian Cup, which kicks off today and runs through September 20 in Thailand.
In a press conference held on Saturday, a day before the launching of the matches of Group 4 which Syria was drawn in, al-Attar said that the team will do its best “to assert its presence and enhance the good reputation of the Syrian football.”
Syria’s opening match will be against the Saudi team tomorrow at 03:00 pm (Damascus time).
The Syrian team is scheduled to meet the Qatari team at 10:00 am next Tuesday and will conclude its matches by playing the Iranian team at 04:00 pm on Thursday.
This is Syria’s sixth participation in the AFC Asian Cup after taking part in the tournaments of 2002, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012.
On September 2, Syria’s team beat Kuwaiti al- Salmiya team 4-1 in a friendly match that took place at al-Salmiya Stadium in Kuwait, in the framework of a training camp held by the national team in the Gulf state in preparation for the AFC Asian Cup finals.
Another win for Syria was scored last Saturday when it beat Kuwaiti al-Yarmouk team 6-0 at the beginning of the training camp.
