Damascus, SANA – Swimming and Water Sports Union organized a festival at Tishreen Olympic swimming pool in Damascus, concluding a training course for children at the Swim School.
An array of sports shows and activities that included diving, swimming and synchronized swimming were performed during the festival, which was held on Wednesday.
At the end of the festival, children who took the course performed two shows in salutation to the Syrian Arab Army and in expression of support for President Bashar al-Assad.
Children showed “remarkable talent” and put all the main skills they have learned at the school into play, Chairman of the General Sports Federation Muwafaq Jum’a said in a speech.
He hailed the importance of swimming schools in spotting promising talents and nurturing them to further boost the sport in the country as Syrian swimmers have made notable achievements winning tens of gold medals at a number of landmark regional and international championships.
Deputy chairperson of the Federation Lubna Moalla indicated the large number of children who took swimming lessons at the Swim School this summer amounting to1500 children who are aged 5-12.
At the end of the 3-month course, she added, 100 talented children were picked up to join the recently-opened National Swimming Center.
