Syria participates in activities of APA Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs

Tehran , SANA – The Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs on Sunday started activities in Tehran with the participation of a Syrian parliamentary delegation headed by Dr. Yusuf Mahmoud Asa’ad.

Asa’ad called for confronting the terrorist danger to which Syria and Iraq are exposed, warning that “the terrorist organizations are committing crimes, which could be described as ethnic cleansing, against the Syrian and Iraqi people.

“Syria is suffering from terrorism which wears Islam garment, a terrorism that destroys mosques, churches and museums where they loot the Syrian antiquities and then selling them at the European markets,” Asa’ad said.

He called for facing all powers which seek and work to target the cultural diversity in the region and the world.

The 2-day meeting will discuss issues related to drug trafficking, enhancing and protecting workers rights in Asia, combating corruption, challenges of globalization  and other cultural and social issues.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the Syrian delegation met delegations from Iran, Bahrain, Cambodia and Indonesia and the Committee’s Secretary-General.

Talks dealt with dangers of terrorism in Syria and the region, and the necessity of facing it with all possible means and divulging its link with the Israeli terrorism in Gaza and the region.
