Iraqi families fleeing terrorists receive UN aid in northeastern Syria

Hasaka, SANA – A joint UN aid convoy was sent to Iraqi families who fled the attacks of the terrorist organization of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and took shelter in the city in al-Malikiyeh in northeastern Syria.

The convoy was jointly organized by the UN World Food Program (WFP) and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR).

Director of WFP office in Qamishli told SANA reporter that the aid included food stuff and ready meals, in addition to non-food relief items such as blankets and health stuff.

Aid distribution, which will be carried out in cooperation with the Syrian government, cover 600 Iraqi families who came to al-Malikiyeh in the countryside of Qamishli city in Hasaka province.

ISIS has taken over huge swathes of northern Iraq, killing hundreds of people and forcing many others to flee their home towns and villages and find refuge in other nearby areas, including in neighboring Syria.
