New York, SANA- Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN Bashar al-Jaafari stressed Syria’s strong condemnation of the insistence of the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nickolay Mladenov on not tackling the situations in the occupied Syrian Golan, referring to Israel’s disregard of hundreds of the UN resolutions and its violations of the international humanitarian law and the human rights law.
In a statement before the UN Security Council on the “situation in the Middle East including the Palestinian cause”, al-Jaafari said that Syria strongly condemns Maldenov’s insistence on not tackling the situations in the occupied Syrian Golan and the stance of the UN towards Israel’s occupation of the Golan according to the relevant UN resolutions, and not talking about the continued illegal practices of Israel and its violations of the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement(UNDA)through cooperating with the armed terrorist groups.
Al-Jaafari said that the meeting of the Security Council today coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Israeli occupation of the Arab territories and of passing the resolution No.”242” by the Security Council and with the 70th anniversary of adopting the resolution No. “181” by the UN General Assembly, indicating that despite that the UN has adopted hundreds of resolutions which demand ending the Israeli occupation of the Arab territories, the successive Israeli governments have always rejected these resolutions and they committed systematic violations of the humanitarian international law and the human rights law.
He talked about the continued Israeli settlement campaigns and expelling the Palestinians from their homes, demolishing them and confiscating their lands and properties, and Israel’s complete disregard of the UN resolutions relevant to ending the Israeli occupation, referring to the interposition of the representative of “Israel” who said that “The Security Council’s resolutions will not help the Palestinians in anything.”
Al-Jaafari indicated that for more than half a century, some of the UN member states have been supporting Israel in its occupational policies in the Arab territories through using the veto right for more than 44 times since the establishment of UN to prevent the adoption of draft resolutions on the Arab-Israeli conflict.
He added that for more than half a century, the Syrian civilians in the occupied Syrian Golan under the Israeli occupation have been suffering from the most obnoxious policies of suppression, racial discrimination, arrest, torture and they have been prevented from carrying the identity of their homeland Syria and from building Syrian national hospitals in their occupied towns in the Golan.
Al-Jaafari said that Israel continues its hostile colonial policies which aim at Judaizing the occupied Golan ignoring all the resolutions of the international legitimacy, and it encourages the new settlers in an outrageous violation of the UN resolutions.
“Israel, since the beginning of the crisis in Syria, has breached the UNDA and the UN Security Council’s (UNSC) resolutions, mainly those connected to fighting terrorism, through offering all types of support to the armed terrorist groups at the Disengagement Zone in the Syrian occupied Golan, including Jabhat al-Nusra, which is designated by the UNSC as a terrorist organization,” al-Jaafari went on to say.
He added that Israel communicated with the terrorist groups via the cease-fire line, facilitated their crossing and movement between the southern and northern areas of the Disengagement Zone and offered overt logistic and medical support to them, including admitting the injured into the Israeli hospitals across the cease-fire line to treat them and return them back to the Syrian land across the line to resume their terrorist acts there.
He warned that the Israeli support of the terrorists doesn’t only constitute a flagrant violation of the UNDA or the mission of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) and the international law, but endangers the lives of the UN forces working there and undermines their work.
Syria’s envoy said the Israeli occupation forces, colluded with Jabhat al-Nusra-linked armed terrorist groups, attempt to establish control over al-Yarmouk Valley and al-Raqad Valley areas in Daraa province, bordering the Syrian occupied Golan, through evacuating a number of villages from their inhabitants.
Al-Jaafari emphasized that the Syrian Arab Army is sparing no efforts to prevent Israel and the terrorists who are cooperating with it to carry out their hostile schemes.
He asserted that Syria has informed the UNSC, through scores of letters, of the Israeli attacks and violations and is still waiting for the Council to adopt immediate measures against Israel to stop its aggressions and violations and to pressure it to withdraw from the Syrian Golan to June 4, 1967 line according to the UNSC resolutions, particularly 242, 338 and 497.
