28th Book Fair concludes activities

Damascus, SANA – The 28th Book Fair held at Al-Assad National Library concluded its activities on Saturday evening.

In a press conference, Culture Minister Mohammad al-Ahmad said the success of the 28th iteration of the Book Fair shows that Syrian culture has managed to shrug off the dust of war and sends a message to the world that life in Syria will continue.

Al-Ahmad noted that more than 70 publishing houses participated in this event, which also included other activities like screening Syrian films, seminars, and exhibitions of rare manuscripts and books.

He stressed that the return of the Book Fair after a four-year hiatus was made possible after the administration of Al-Assad National Library and the Syrian Publishers Union proposed this idea, with the Culture Ministry adopting this initiative and giving it all the support it can offer.

Al-Ahmad hoped that the return of the Book Fair will incentivize Arab and foreign publishing houses to participate next year, adding that the Ministry worked with the Syrian Publishers Union to reduce the high prices of books during the Fair and provide good discounts despite the rising costs of printing and paper prices.

The 28th Book Fair opened on August 24th.
