Entertainment activities for orphans held at Tishreen Stadium in Damascus

Damascus, SANA – Under the patronage of Mrs. Asma al-Assad, Lamset Shifaa (Healing Touch) charity and Big Idea company held on Saturday an entertainment activity for orphans at Tishreen Stadium in Damascus.

The activity, which is carried out on occasion of World Orphan Week, aims at bringing a smile to orphans as well as developing their talents. The activities included a mini-circus with juggling and acrobatic performances, and a pantomime inspired by short stories, in addition to distributing storybooks, clothes, and other gifts.

In a statement to SANA, Minister of Social Affairs Rima al-Qadri said that the Syrian state, side by side with the civil society, exerts sincere efforts to provide support and care for orphans, follow up on their education, and meet their health, physical, and psychological needs.

In turn, chairwoman of Lamset Shifaa, Maha Nweilati, said that the event is part of the charity’s activities to mark this annual occasion, indicating that there is a plan to hold an event for martyrs’ sons and daughters soon.

For her part, director of Big Idea company Lama Lutfi said that the activity aims at supporting orphans and offer them care and affection to try and make up for some of the loss they feel, all that so that they could become active members in society.

The world marks in the first week of April the World Orphan Week to boost awareness regarding the need of paying attention to this group and fulfilling their needs.

Lamset Shifaa charity covers the expenses of surgeries for poor children and orphans and it provides support to families of orphans and of sick children. Moreover, the association aims at raising families’ awareness of pediatric healthcare, principles of accident and disease prevention, and first aid assistance. During the crisis, the association spread its activities to cover the needy of all ages, opening several departments for distributing relief aid and orphan sponsorships, and establishing a temporary housing center in Mezzeh area.
