Russia: 15 breaches of cessation of hostilities by terrorist organizations in Syria in past 24 hours

Moscow, SANA – The Russian Defense Ministry announced on Tuesday that the cessation of hostilities in Syria was breached 15 times by terrorist organizations during the past 24 hours.

The Ministry’s website published a statement prepared by the Russian center for coordination and monitoring the cessation of hostilities in Syria which confirmed that the majority of breaches were registered in Damascus and the countryside of Aleppo, Homs and Lattakia provinces.

The center said that residential neighborhoods and sites for the Syrian army and Kurdish protection units to the northwest of Aleppo city were shelled with mortars and light weapons five times, adding that terrorist organizations affiliated to Jabhat al-Nusra targeted Adra area, al-wafideen Camp neighborhood and the surroundings of Damascus Central Prison, killing a person and injuring three others.

A terrorist group attacked a military post for the Syrian army in Marj al-Sultan area in Damascus countryside, according to the center.

Shelling attacks by Jabhat al-Nusra-linked terrorist organizations were also registered against a number of positions in Kubaneh town in Lattakia countryside and Bdama in Idleb countryside, the center added.

In Homs countryside, terrorists carried out two attacks against positions for the Syrian army and the popular defense groups in the surroundings of Hur Benafso area, according to the center’s statement.

Today in the afternoon, the terrorist organizations fired 7 rocket and mortar shells at al-Sabil and al-Matar neighborhoods in Daraa city, causing material damage and a fire in one of the houses.

The Russian center explained that the number of groups taking part in the cessation of hostilities is 130, pointing out that the American side has handed Moscow a list of 61 groups.

On Monday evening, the Russian center announced that seven breaches of the cessation of hostilities in Syria were registered, bringing the number of breaches to 31 since the beginning of the implementation of the cessation of hostilities at midnight on Friday.

The cessation of hostilities in Syria does not include ISIS, Jabhat al-Nusra, and other terrorist organizations listed on international terrorism list.

Borodavkin: Breaches of cessation of hostilities mainly committed by Jabhat al-Nusra and other terrorists

In a relevant context, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva Alexey Borodavkin affirmed on Tuesday that the breaches of the cessation of hostilities in Syria are committed mainly by Jabhat al-Nusra and other terrorists.

TASS news agency Borodavkin as saying that the Russian and US military forces are working calmly to look into possible ceasefire violations, adding that instances that have been reported are “mainly provocations carried out by Jabhat al-Nusra and other terrorists.”

Borodavkin said the reported instances will be investigated calmly and solved.

“We are satisfied by the level of cooperation and work between Russia and US,” he added, noting that those who are seriously interested in establishing peace in Syria work calmly and professionally, while those who are not interested in this make unfounded and blatant accusations.
