Beirut, SANA- Syria’s Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdul-Karim stressed that the latest events such as the terrorist attack in Paris reminded of the necessity of fighting terrorism, particularly as France has been one of the countries which has supported and financed terrorism to achieve special interests.
Speaking at a symposium organized Saturday by the Future Studies Institute in Beirut under the title “Russian War on Terrorism in Syria and Iraq…Reality and Prospects”, Ambassador Abdul-Karim added that after what took place in Paris, the US, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar and other states should review their calculations because terrorism destroys everything.
He considered that the reason behind targeting Syria is its capabilities and resources as it was an advanced state in all domains, and it rejects to abandon rights in its land and it has been adhered to supporting the resistance in Lebanon and Palestine and it rejected the invasion of Iraq.
He said “The whole world nowadays realizes the righteousness of Syria’s stance against terrorism…The Syrian Arab Army has proved that it is a basic power in fighting terrorism,” referring to Russia’s effective participation in combating terrorism in Syria.
For his part, Russia’s Ambassador to Lebanon Alexander Zasypkin affirmed his country’s adherence to the role of the UN Security Council in fighting terrorism and finding balanced solutions, indicating that the attempts of exploiting the Council for achieving special interests or trying to directly interfere in countries’ affairs will lead to undermining the international relations and to the spread of chaos, extremism and terrorism.
“Since the beginning, we warned against the attempts of toppling the legitimate regimes and of sowing sedition…We have always stood against the destructive theories such as the ‘creative chaos’, and we called upon the international community to help the countries which are witnessing difficult circumstances,” Zasypkin said.
He added “We have supported all the initiatives which aim at achieving a political settlement in Syria despite of the fact that some parties have thwarted all the agreements.”
He affirmed that since the beginning, Russia has rejected the fighting and arming of the so-called “moderate opposition” in Syria, adding “We have warned against the dangers of terrorism, and we called for fighting it.”
“We are working on eliminating terrorism in Syria in the framework of Vienna Plan, and what is more important is preserving Syria’s territorial integrity as a sovereign independent and secular state,” Zasypkin said, asserting the importance of publishing a joint list of the terrorist organizations.
