Moscow, SANA-Syria’s Grand Mufti, Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun said on Thursday that Syria was and still is a secular, democratic and unified state where Muslims and Christians live in peace and tolerance.
“A secular state doesn’t mean combating religion as prophets hadn’t come to establish religious states, but they have come to serve humanity,” Mufti Hassoun added during a meeting with Chairman of the Russian Communist party Gennady Zyuganov.
During the meeting, Hassoun congratulated the Russian friendly people on Russia’s national day, thanking Russia for the support it offers to Syria in combating the crimes of terrorists.
“Syria is paying the price for its pan-Arab stances as it has remained steadfast for nearly 5 years against terrorists and foreign mercenaries who came from abroad in an attempt to divide Syria and overcome its civilized and glorious pattern,” Hassoun affirmed.
For his part, Zyganov underlined that the communist MPS at Duma Council will do their best, from a legislative point of view, to increase military, humanitarian and economic assistance to Syria.
In this regard, Syria’s Ambassador in Moscow Riad Haddad also offered congratulations on Russia National day, affirming the importance of cooperation and friendly relations connecting Moscow and Damascus.
