Moscow, SANA – Foreign Ministers of Russia, Iran and the US discussed over the phone the settlement for the crisis in Syria.
Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his U.S. counterpart John Kerry discussed the possibility of pushing forward the Syrian-Syrian dialogue with the participation of the international community.
The Ministry added that Lavrov also discussed with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif the possible means for settling the Syrian crisis with focus on immediate steps towards holding an intra-Syrian political dialogue.
The conversation, which was initiated by the Iranian side, focused on that there is no alternative to promoting this process by all key countries of the region, according to the Ministry’s statement.
Lavrov and Zarif have been staying in close contact on the Syrian settlement in the recent days where they had telephone conversations on October 24th and 26th, which were preceded by a meeting between foreign ministers of Russia, US, Saudi Arabia and Turkey in Vienna on October 23rd that was also focused on the Syrian settlement.
After that meeting, the Russian Foreign Minister said it was necessary to expand the circle of external players to promote the settlement as he named Iran and Egypt as candidates number one to join the Vienna Quartet.
