Hungary PM blames Western interference for migrant influx

Budapest, SANA-Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban blamed Western interference for the crisis of migrant arrivals flocking to the West, considering that tarnishing the image of President Bashar al-Assad is unacceptable.

In comments published by European newspapers, Orban said Europe had better not have interfered in the internal affairs of states. “In Syria, we backed the opposition though we know did not exist…We tarnished the image of President al-Assad which we’d better not have done,” he said.

“We do not want extremists in Europe because it is their lifestyle not religious habits that they want to change, which does not sit well with the European society,” he said.

Hungary, which is a key transit route for immigrants into Western Europe, has announced it is setting up a border fence with Croatia to prevent immigrants from crossing its borders. Scuffles broke out with thousands of trapped migrants, with many of them wounded and others arrested, which made them head to Croatia for an alternative route.
