Abdullahian: Attempt to establish “buffer zone” in Syria violates Syrian sovereignty

Tehran, SANA – Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdullahian said on Thursday the attempts of some countries to create a “buffer zone” on the Syrian soil would be a violation of the Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In statements to the Iranian IRNA new agency, Abdullahian stressed that preserving security in Turkey is an issue that receives Iran’s serious attention, “but there should be mechanisms that don’t violate the international rights.”

He warned against taking “such unnecessary measures that would further complicate the situation in the region.”

The security of Syria and that of its neighboring countries, said Abdullahian, “would be guaranteed once external players cease using terrorism as a tool and once there is a serious will to confront extremism.
