Damascus, SANA – Eliminating terrorism is the major priority, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem reiterated on Thursday.
He was speaking to UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura, who came to Damascus to present a preview of the latest developments concerning the meetings he has been holding in the framework of settling the crisis in Syria.
De Mistura briefed al-Moallem on the consultative meetings he has held in several countries within efforts to find a political solution to the crisis.
The envoy is going to present an update on his efforts and work to the UN Security Council late this month.
Al-Moallem, for his part, reviewed the latest developments in the country and renewed Syria’s support to de Mistura’s efforts that seek a political solution.
Syria, he said, stills sees that eliminating terrorism and drying up its funding and support sources are the major priority.
He recalled in this context Syria’s support for the initiative launched by President Vladimir Putin that aims at having a regional effort for fighting terrorism in the framework of implementing the relevant Security Council resolutions on counterterrorism.
Al-Moallem stressed that the people and army of Syria will remain steadfast while defending its security and stability and those of the region.
