Syrian community head explains war on Syria to Italian figures in Florence

Rome, SANA – Head of the Syrian community in Italy Jamal Abu Abbas presented a detailed explanation of the nature and dimensions of the terrorist war waged on Syria, at a symposium held in the Italian Province of Florence on Wednesday.

He clarified to the Italian attendees, who included party figures, that the war in Syria has nothing to do with the slogans of democracy and freedom which the US and its allies tout themselves to be the epitome of.

Rather, Abu Abbas said, the aim of the war is to achieve the goals of the imperialist powers and realize their interests in Syria and the region.

He made it clear that this destructive war would not have been still going on was it not for the continued support provided by the Western countries and the Gulf states to the terrorist organizations of ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra among others.

He also slammed the Western countries for the unfair economic sanctions they have imposed on the Syrian people, creating great livelihood challenges for them.

The symposium was called for by the Italian Province of Florence and the 7th Committee on Equality, Social Justice, International Relations and Immigration earlier this month.

It was agreed at its end that officials in Florence put efforts toward helping improve the Italian-Syrian relations and lifting the suffering of the Syrian people.

Another wider symposium was agreed to be held with the aim of getting the Italian public opinion acquainted with the true picture of the events in Syria.
