BRICS leaders: Solution to crisis in Syria through dialogue, political means

Moscow, SANA-Leader of BRICS group countries reiterated on Thursday their continued support to reaching a political solution to the crisis in Syria through dialogue, affirming rejection of politicizing the humanitarian aid issue in Syria and warning of the negative impacts of unilateral, unfair sanctions on the Syrian people.

Presidents of Russia, China, Brazil and South Africa in addition to India’s prime Minister, stressed, in a statement issued at the conclusion of the 7th summit held in Ufa, Russia, their support to Russia’s efforts aiming at finding a solution to the crisis in Syria, referring to the two consultative meetings of Syrian-Syrian talks held recently in Moscow.

The statement also backed efforts of the UN Chief Ban Ki-Moon and his envoy to Syria Staffan di Mistura and other international efforts to settle the crisis in Syria through peaceful and political means.

BRICS leaders also welcomed the practical steps taken by the Syrian sides to carry out resolutions issued by Security Council to deliver the relief aid safely and without obstacles to the affected people in Syria.

As for terrorism, the five leaders called on world countries to commit to their obligations regarding counter-terrorism, avoid double standard policy, condemning with the strongest terms, the brutal crimes perpetrated by terrorists of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and other terrorist organizations in Syria, Iraq and the region.

“BRICS leaders condemn with the strongest terms, terrorism with all its forms and the dangerous violations of human rights and the international human law by ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra, including acts of violence against women and children,” the statement added.
