National Song Festival held in Damascus

Damascus, SANA – National Song Festival was wrapped up Thursday at the Opera House in the presence of Minister of Information Omran al-Zoubi.

The festival, held over two days, included shows recalling old national songs and chants that had a pioneering role in documenting the victories of the Syrian people throughout their struggle to gain independence from the French colonial forces.

New songs exalting the steadfastness which the Syrian people have been showing since the outset of the crisis in the country in 2011 and the army’s recent steady victories on the battlefield against terrorist groups were also sung as part of the festival’s activities.

The songs were chanted to the music played by the Arab Orchestra, blending together the tunes of various rhythm, brass and stringed instruments.

Some 11 short documentaries giving insight into the history of the Syrian national song that is loaded with musical and singing works that have formed a rich archive.

The festival witnessed a remarkable turnout of people who showed a thirst for this type of songs and chants, regarding the festival as an opportunity to highlight the importance of the national song in the lives of peoples.
Over 150 artists, dances, singers, chanters and musicians took part in a wide range of activities that also included dance plateaus.
