Foreign Minister discusses ways to enhance joint action with International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism (IIIM) delegation

Damascus, SANA-Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad al-Shaibani held a meeting in Damascus with a delegation from the International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism (IIIM), headed by Robert Petit.

The two sides held constructive discussions that addressed ways to expand cooperation and joint action using the best possible mechanisms, achieving comprehensive accountability and justice for the Syrian people for the crimes committed by the former Assad regime.

They underlined that transitional justice is a comprehensive process that addresses various aspects of life, including the provision of basic services, ensuring the safe and dignified return of refugees, and responding to the needs of the Syrian people.

Minister al-Shaibani stressed that unilateral coercive measures and sanctions imposed on Syria directly impede the process of transitional justice, institutional reform efforts, and the rehabilitation of vital sectors, which are essential pillars for achieving sustainable peace and justice.

The Foreign Minister affirmed the Syrian Arab Republic’s commitment to continued cooperation with the (IIIM) in the pursuit of accountability and fair results that redress the victims and their families.
