Arab League affirms solidarity with Syria in facing Israeli aggression

Cairo, SANA-The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, has strongly condemned the Israeli occupation’s attack on the village of Koya in Daraa western countryside, which resulted in the martyrdom and injury of several innocent civilians. He reaffirmed the League’s solidarity with Syria in confronting Israeli aggressions and its full support for Syria’s sovereignty, unity, independence, and territorial integrity.

In a statement published Wednesday on the League’s website, Aboul Gheit reiterated the League’s absolute rejection of the continuous Israeli attacks on Syrian territory. He described them as a blatant violation of Syria’s sovereignty and an evident attempt to exploit the critical phase the country is going through in order to fragment its lands and incite strife and conflicts.

Aboul Gheit called on the United Nations Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities by halting the unjustified and brutal Israeli aggression against Syria and obliging Israel to respect international law and the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
He also urged the international community to adopt strong and clear positions to deter Israel’s aggressive and expansionist conduct against the countries and peoples of the region.
