Telecom Regulatory Authority:  Ban on possessing drones and satellite internet without prior authorization

Damascus, SANA -The Telecommunication and Post Regulatory Authority has confirmed the prohibition of owning and using drones and the satellite internet service “Starlink” without prior authorization from the authority.

The Director of the Law Enforcement Directorate within the authority, Eng. Abdul Rahman Zaidan, explained to a SANA reporter that the ban aims to ensure that these technologies are not used in activities that disrupt public order or pose security threats.

He noted that Starlink services could interfere with local networks and cause communication disruptions, while drones carry potential risks, including privacy violations and their use in illegal activities.

Zaidan further clarified that, according to the regulatory framework issued by the authority, the display, sale, ownership, or operation of any drone or satellite internet service is strictly prohibited without obtaining the necessary licenses through official procedures.

Zaidan emphasized that any violation or non-compliance with the laws governing the possession of drones or satellite internet services, such as Starlink, will hold the violator fully accountable under the provisions of Telecommunications Law No. 18 of 2010 and its amendments.
