Information Minister: developing media institutions to achieve greater influence on public opinion

Damascus,SANA- Minister of Information, Dr. Boutros Al-Hallaq said that that work is continuing to develop the infrastructure in official media institutions at the administrative and legal levels to keep pace with the changing reality and the huge presence of social media and achieve the ability to compete.

Al-Hallaq’s remarks came during a dialogue seminar with a number of journalists and media professionals at Al-Wahda Foundation for Press, Printing, Publishing and Distribution building in Damascus on Sunday.

The minister reviewed the ministry’s achievements during the past few years despite of the difficulties that Syria has been undergoing economically due to the Western blockade, global geopolitical events, and natural disasters.

He pointed out the need to take advantage of the opportunities provided by Law No. 3 and invest them in the media sector, including, without limitation, launching partnerships between the public and private sectors to improve the structure of current institutions or to create new institutions.

A number of the participating journalists underlined the role of the media in combating corruption as a culture and phenomenon, and the necessity of benefiting from new graduates in media in addition to finding mechanisms to control issues that appear on social media by people who do not have proof and accurate information about what they are talking about.
