A new hospital, partly funded by the locals, to be built in Homs eastern countryside

Homs, SANA – Cornerstone was laid on Thursday for building a hospital in al-Sh’eirat village in the eastern countryside of Homs province with local efforts to provide medical services to the residents of the whole area surrounding the village.

Nearly SYP 5 millions have been collected from residents of many villages in donations to build the hospital.

Homs Governor, Talal al-Barazi, promised all forms of support to expedite the construction of the hospital, noting that the eastern region in Homs countryside has witnessed remarkable improvement in services during the past months, after long periods of standstill caused by the terrorism crisis dragging on across the country since 2011.

For his part, head of “Good Work” charity association, Mehiy-Eddin Hourani, hailed this “popular effort” on the locals’ part, saying it indicates that the residents have already started moving toward “the stage of work and construction.”

Hourani noted that the hospital will provide services to more than 30 villages with 40 thousand residents, which he said would contribute to sparing those the trouble of travelling to the city for treatment and reducing their burdens.

After getting the hospital established, which is expected to take two years, it will be supplied by all the necessary equipment as well as the administrative and medical cadres by Homs Health Directorate as the latter has pledged.
