Damascus, SANA- The General Federation of Trade Unions (GFTU) held on Wednesday a celebration on the 77th anniversary of its establishment and in appreciation of the working class’ efforts and sacrifices.
Mohammad Shaaban Azzouz, member of the Regional Leadership of al-Baath Arab socialist Party, said in a speech that the war against Syria targeted all its social, economic and cultural components and aimed to undermine it, hailing the Syrian Arab army’s sacrifices in confronting this war.
Azzouz pointed out that the war came to reverse Syria’s gains and achievements that laid the cornerstone for building a modern Syria in an attempt “to bring it to its knees.”
Jamal al-Qadri, GFTU chairman said Syrian workers exerted diligent efforts to build their country, affirming that they are determined to combat terrorist organizations in all areas despite tough challenges ahead.
He also praised the March 8th Revolution which gave the workers and peasants their rights.
In a statement on the occasion that SANA received a copy of, the Federation vowed non-stop efforts to defend the rights of workers and “keep their suffering at a minimum under current circumstances.”
