Tartous/Lattakia, SANA- President Bashar al-Assad visited Thursday the new power plant in the coastal city of Baniyas.

The plant is in the final stages of its construction and will be put into service in the coming weeks with an initial production capacity of up to 24 megawatts and rising in the subsequent phase to 56 megawatts.

President al-Assad also visited the Syrian Company for photovoltaic module manufacturing in Lattakia, newly established with advanced production lines to manufacture the modules needed to set up solar energy systems.

President al-Assad stressed that every increase in electricity production, even if it is small, will have a positive impact.

Addressing  the cadres in Baniyas station , President al-Assad said ” Establishing this station has taken only one year and a half given the cooperation conducted between the private and public sector, hailing the quick accomplishment of such project which is a great achievement by all cadres.

“Focusing on generating power in each governorate may be the beginning of decentralized technology , which is different from decentralization with respect to the governorates in terms of authority. This may be a solution to the problems of each region independently from a technical point of view and save a lot of money” President al-Assad added.
