Mikdad and Safadi discuss conditions for the return of Syrian refugees to their homeland

Damascus, SANA-Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Fayssal Mikdad, said that Syria and Jordan are linked to one geographic area, common interests and have a joint target to see stability and security prevail in the whole Arab region.

Mikdad, who met with Jordanian Foreign Affairs Minister Ayman al-Safadi, said in a press release following the meeting that the most important topics discussed were bilateral relations, the standing situation in Syria and means of preparing the conditions for the return of refugees to their homeland, in addition to the latest development following the Arab Summit of Jeddah.

“The war which was launched on Syria led to many problems in the whole region and the surroundings, and Syria is making consultations with brothers in Jordan about a number of issues, including the refugees file,” Mikdad said.

He added that every Syrian around the world has the right to return to homeland and he or she is welcomed.

Minister Safadi , for his part , said that the talks also dealt with the general effort about reaching to a political solution to the crisis in Syria, addressing all its humanitarian, security and political repercussions, and ensuring Syria’s unity and territorial integrity, and achieving aspirations of fraternal Syrian people, in a way to rescue them from terrorism and create conditions that allow the voluntary return of Syrian refugees.

During the last period, agreement has been made on a plan for progress towards resolving the crisis in Syria, and addressing its impacts, similar to what has been reached during the meeting held in the Arab League,” Safadi added.

Safadi said that the war in Syria, which continued for 12 years, had a lot of consequences, so not all matters will be resolved immediately, and “we began a serious Arab track aimed at resolving the crisis,” adding that Jordan is the most affected by the crisis, and it has exerted all the efforts to take practical steps towards the solution.

He underlined that Jordan is providing everything possible to Syrian refugees.

Safadi called for lifting the sanctions imposed on Syria.
