Tehran, SANA. Representative of the Leader of the Iranian Islamic Revolution, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran Ali Shamkhani, said that the results of the presidential elections in Syria constitute a real national victory, congratulating President Bashar al-Assad on winning the elections.
Meeting Syria’s Ambassador in Tehran Adnan Mahmoud on Wednesday, Shamkhani said that holding the elections put a stop to excuses used to escalate the crisis in Syria, and that it constitutes a defeat for terrorists and their protectors.
He said that Syria taught its enemies a lesson and showed the strength of the resistance in the region, affirming Iran’s support for the will of the Syrian people.
Shamkhani also stressed the need to rebuild the areas destroyed by terrorists in Syria, describing the arming of terrorist groups as a fiasco, and warning against the spread of terrorism in the region.
For his part, Mahmoud said that the elections showed that nobody can undermine the will of the Syrian people which they expressed via ballot boxes, and that the elections imposed regional shifts in priorities.
