Damascus, SANA- Algeria’s Ambassador in Damascus, Lahsan Tuhami said that the Algerian-Syrian relations are historical and distinguished, and there is constant willigness to strengthen them in all fields in the interests of the two brotherly peoples.
In a statement to SANA on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Algeria’s independence, Ambassador Tohami said that It has been an honour and privilege for Algeria to commemorate this anniversary in Syria, thanking the Syrian leadership and people for their support towads Algeria in gaining independence, which came as a culmination of struggle for successive popular resistances, on top the resistance of Abd al-Qadir al-Jazaeri against the French colonialism.
The Syrian- Algerian joint committee for cooperation held several sessions on ministerial level and the two countries later took an advanced step to raise this committee to the level of the joint higher committee for cooperation headed by the two prime ministers, through signing a significant number of agreements, protocols, memoranda of understanding and different programs that covered economic and cultural sectors, The Algerian ambassador added.
He referred to the high position of Abd al-Qadir al-Jazaeri and and the Algerian community in Syria, noting that the brotherly relations between the two brotherly countries were reflected by Syria’s support for the Algerian liberation revolution against French colonialism.
He stressed his country’s support for efforts aimed at resolving the crisis in Syria without any foreign interference and in a way that guarantees its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.
The Ambassador voiced the hope that Syria will restore its Arab, regional and international role.
