Putin: Professional troops only take part in special operation in Ukraine

Moscow, SANA-The task of carrying out the special military operation in Ukraine will involve only professional military service members. Conscript soldiers are not participating in the operation and will not be in the future, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

“I would like to emphasize that conscripts aren’t and won’t be taking part in hostilities, and there will be no additional call-up of reservists from the reserve,” he said in a video addressed to the relatives of servicemen who are now participating in the special military operation on the occasion of the International Women’s Day celebrated on March 8.

“The tasks set are solved only by professional servicemen. I am convinced they will reliably ensure security and peace for the people of Russia,” Putin said.

Since February 24, the Russian Armed Forces have been carrying out the special military operation to protect the Donbass region in southeastern Ukraine, where Putin had affirmed earlier that Russia does not plan to occupy Ukrainian lands and that its goal is to protect people who have been subjected to persecution and genocide for eight years by the Kyiv regime and to disarm Ukraine.
