Russia, Iran renew demand for immediate withdrawal of illegitimate presence of foreign forces in Syria

New York, SANA- Russia renewed its demand for the immediate withdrawal of the illegitmate presence of foreign forces on Syrian territory.

First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyansky said at a session of the UN Security Council held last night, that we call for the immediate withdrawal of the illegitimate presence for all foreign forces from Syria, adding that it is clear that the US does not deal with counter-terrorism even at the local level, not to mention the global scale.

Polyansky stressed that Russia, in cooperation with the Syrian government, will not stop fighting terrorism in Syria, adding “the Syrian forces, with the support of the Russian Air Force, continue to hunt and eliminate Daesh terrorists in Syria.”

In the same context, Iran renewed its firm position to respect the sovereignty and unity of the Syrian territory, end the illegal foreign presence, and to demand halting the Israeli aggression and the immediate lifting of the unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people.

Iranian Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative to UN, Zahra Ershadi said that the fight against terrorism should not become a pretext to violate the sovereignty and unity of the Syrian territory.

She stressed that the continued occupation of parts of Syria was an essential element to create suitable conditions for further terrorist acts in the country, and that this must end immediately.

Ershadi stressed that any step taken to confront terrorism must be coordinated with the Syrian government, pointing out that the fight against terrorism is consistent with the commitment of all countries to their full responsibilities and abstaining from adopting double and selective standards.
