436 thousand hectares cultivated with wheat and barley in Hasaka province

Hasaka, SANA – The area planted with wheat and barley crops in Hasaka province including the rainfed and irrigated lands has reached 436 thousand hectares distributed to different areas of agricultural stability.

Head of the Department of Plant Production at the Directorate of Agriculture, Eng. Jalal Bilal, said in a statement to SANA Economic Bulletin that there is still plenty of time for farmers who want to plant the two crops and this is associated with the improvement in the rainfall during the remaining period, especially in areas of agricultural stability.

Eng. Bilal pointed out that 80,400 hectares have been cultivated with irrigated wheat, with an implementation rate of 73 percent of the planned area, while 193,350 hectares have been cultivated with rainfed wheat with an execution rate of 38 percent.

For their part, farmers in the province hope that the rainfall will improve in the near future to continue cultivating the lands with wheat and barley crops.
