Mikdad affirms necessity of respecting Syria’s sovereignty, refusing any intervention in its domestic affairs

Damascus, SANA- Foreign and Expatriates Minister Faysal Mikdad received on Saturday the UN special envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen and an accompanying delegation.

The two sides talked about developments on the international arena and their repercussions on the situations in the middle east .

Mikdad called on all countries to adhere to the international law and the Charter of the United Nations within the framework of their international relations, particularly in terms of not interfering in the domestic affairs of other countries or trying to impose foreign agendas against the interest and determination of the peoples of these countries.

As for the situation in Syria, the Special Envoy talked about the attempts he makes on the international and regional levels, briefing Mikdad on results of meetings he had held during the past period .

Mikdad also called for respecting Syria’s sovereignty, refusing any foreign interference in the domestic affairs of Syria , demanding an end for the US and Turkish occupations of Syrian territories and stop their violations of Syria’s sovereignty.

The Minister talked about the impacts of unilateral coercive economic measures imposed by the United States and Western countries on the Syrian people, particularly on the health sector in light of Coronavirus pandemic as viewpoints were identical that these measures make the situation more difficult .

Regarding the Committee of Discussing the Constitution, the two sides stressed the importance of guaranteeing non intervention in the committee’s work and to be led by Syria.

On the other hand, Mikdad talked about the reality of the recent developments in Daraa and the satisfaction of the Syrian state over the solutions that have been reached and the start of returning the normal life to Daraa al-Balad.

He stressed that the Syrian state has been keen on dealing with the situation there through flexible dialogue and not to push for confrontations that harm the innocent people and the infrastructure as it succeeded in doing so.
