Mikdad: Resolution on extending entry of humanitarian aid in its current form is an achievement

Damascus, SANA- Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad said that adopting resolution 2585 on extending the period of entry of humanitarian aid through border crossings in its current form is an achievement because it included all aspects which Western countries refused to include and stressed the delivery of humanitarian aid must be from inside of Syria and not only from the crossings.

Mikdad’s remarks came in a statement to journalists on Saturday.

Mikdad said that the resolution renews the United Nations’ strong faith in the territorial integrity  of Syria, and this makes the Turkish regime along with the United States which supports the separatists in the northern Syria are not satisfied.

It also means that the militants and terrorists have been besieged in this resolution, which stressed in all its paragraphs on the need to provide all possible assistance to Syria, especially from inside Syria.

The UN resolution means that the external crossings are no longer the main tool on which the West relied in delivering aid to Syria , and the interior of Syria become the base, Mikdad said.

He pointed out that the Western countries wanted to reopen the other three crossings, but they only managed to open half of one crossing, which is Bab al-Hawa border crossing and they also wanted to extend the entry of aid through it for one year, but the friends agreed to allow cross-border aid for six months.

The resolution also means that the Syrian state must know everything which enters the country and where food items and humanitarian supplies are going, and thus and it would be difficult for the western countries to pass weapons to terrorists, Mikdad noted.

He pointed out that the Russian and Chinese friends and others at the Security Council managed to restrict the free access of the Western and Turkish aid to the terrorists and armed groups, adding that this an essential step to close Bab al-Hawa border crossing because respect for Syrian sovereignty is achieved through the respect for its borders.

Mikdad indicated that the new resolution has put many restrictions on the movement of goods and the western states which despised the international borders and used theses crossings to damage the unity of the territory and  people of Syria.

“The border crossings were used by the western states, the US and all those who support terrorism, to provide terrorists and militants with the weapons”, the Minister clarified, adding that the UN which established this mechanism has not fulfilled its duty to monitor goods entering Syria.

The minister went on to say that the UN ,like Western countries, has failed to enter real aid to the Syrian people, as those aid was delivered at borders and after that the armed groups , their organizations , and other organizations affiliated to the Western states receive it to distribute them on the terrorists or to be sold later to people at high prices.

Mikdad noted that the three crossings al-Ramtha, Bab al-Salam and al-Yarubiyah were closed, and only Bab al-Hawa remained, which has been the issue of an incredible campaign for the past six months in the United States of America, its research centers, Western countries and politicians, as nothing remains in the world today except the issue of opening Bab al-Hawa crossing.
