Nebenzya: Transferring aid to Syria across borders violates international law

New York, SANA- Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya has affirmed that Russia did not agree with transferring humanitarian aid to Syria across borders, as it constitutes a full violation of the principle of providing humanitarian aid and the rules of international law.

Russia Today said that during a UN Security Council’s meeting, Nebenzya slammed statements regarding the resume of the work of the border crossings as “a bad idea,” indicating that the mechanism of transferring aid across the borders completely violates principle of providing humanitarian aid and the rules of international law.

The UN Security Council adopted Resolution No. 2165, which authorized humanitarian convoys heading to Syria to cross the border on July 14, 2014.

The Council has renewed for 12 months the use of routes across several border crossings in Syria so that humanitarian assistance can reach those in need.

After the adoption of the resolution in 2014, Syria confirmed that the humanitarian side constitutes one of the most important side of the crisis in it as Syria has adopted new mechanisms and initiatives to facilitate the delivery of the humanitarian assistance to those in need, as well as it welcomed all previous efforts to help it reduce this humanitarian burden on its people.
