Beji Caid Essebsi, President of Tunisia with 55,68 percent of votes

 

Tunis, SANA, Tunisia’s High Electoral Commission announced Beji Caid Essebsi has won the presidential election with 55.68 percent of the vote, with a turnout rate of 66,11 percent.

Essebsi’s rival Moncef Marzouki secured 44.32 percent of the vote, the commission said Monday.

Essebsi; born 29 November 1926, is a lawyer and politician, and the founder of the Call for Tunisia (Nidaa Tounes), which also won a plurality in the 2014 parliamentary election.

Essebsi served his country as prime minister from 27 February 2011 to 24 December 2011 and minister of Foreign Affairs from 1981 to 1986.
