Abdullahian criticizes U.S. Administration over arming, training terrorists

Tehran, SANA – Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdullahian on Friday criticized the U.S administration for training and arming the so-called “moderate opposition” in Syria.

During a meeting with Ramzy Ezzeldin Ramzy, the UN Deputy Special Envoy for Syria, Abdullahian said arming the so-called “moderate opposition” contradicts and derails the efforts of the UN Envoy Staffan de Mistura to freeze fighting in Aleppo city.

He called upon the international organization to explicitly announce its opposition to these acts, adding that Iran welcomes the efforts of de Mistrura and stresses that national dialogue is the basis for political solution to the crisis in Syria.

The Iranian oficial highlighted the need for the UN to be a real mediator between the Syrian government and opposition and to inspect the reality of the developments in Syria.
