Bucharest cathedral hosts joint mass for peace in Syria

Bucharest, SANA – A Syrian-Romanian mass for peace in Syria was held at Bucharest cathedral Sunday night.

Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All East John X Yazigi and Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church presided the ceremony.

mass2Yazigi started a visit to Romania last Friday during which he met President Traian Basescu of Romania with focus laid on the situation of Christians in Syria and Lebanon and the role of Romania in reaching a peaceful political solution to the crisis in Syria.

Addressing the attendees, Yazigi expressed happiness over the huge crowd who came to pray for peace in Syria and its people who are being killed by takfiri gangs, praising the stances of the Romanian church and people in support of the Syrian people.

He underlined the significance of holding this joint mass in coincidence with the St. Andrew’s Day (the Feast of St. Andrew), noting the close relations linking both countries.

Massive crowds of people, members of Syrian community in Romania, some Romanian clergymen and students of the theological school took part in the prayers which have been performed in Arabic and Romanian and called for peace, amity and fraternity.
