Damascus, SANA- During the activities of its second day, the conference on the role of scientific and research institutes in the reconstruction process discussed the features of a proposed policy for training government workers and ways to preserve the local environment and reduce the depletion of natural resources.
Youssef Idrees from the National Institute for Administration pointed out that the Higher Commission for Scientific Research chose to focus on building abilities as a priority in drawing up the national policy for technology, science and creativity, saying that investing in human resources is essential for achieving comprehensive development.
Mohamed Akram al-Qash, the Dean of the Higher Institution for Demographic Studies and Research, asserted the importance of updating the social, economic and demographic data and confronting the demographic issues and problems that resulted from the social and economic shifts caused by demographic changes.
Al-Qash considered the population issue to be an urgent priority in the reconstruction and development program.
For his part, Shafiq Daoud from the Civil Engineering Faculty in Damascus University stressed that reconstruction should be carried out via comprehensive regional planning and continuous development to guarantee an equal distribution for resources.
The conference, held at Damascus University’s auditorium by the Higher Commission for Scientific Research, aims primarily at exchanging ideas and expertise among researchers and discussing the contribution of private and public institutions in the reconstruction project.
