Damascus, SANA – The government team in charge of confronting the Coronavirus (COVID-19) decided to extend the suspension of school and university attendance until May 2nd.
During its meeting on Saturday chaired by Prime Minister Imad Khamis, the team stressed the need for the strict implementation of the curfew in all areas to restrict movement and limit gatherings that endanger public health.
The team agreed on principle to provide reimbursement for day and weekly workers and freelancers whose work has stopped due to the steps taken to curb the Coronavirus, tasking the relevant work teams to collect the necessary data to find a suitable mechanism for providing this reimbursement.
The team also discussed the proposition by the Artisans Union regarding the resumption of work for some crafts, and decided to coordinate with the Union to specify which crafts will be allowed to resume work.
The team requested that embassies and diplomatic missions abroad begin receiving applications from Syrian citizens who are stranded in other countries and couldn’t return due to the suspension of flights in order to provide the necessary support for them.
In addition, the team stressed the need to keep maintaining medical equipment, particularly respirators, as well as supporting private initiatives for producing them.
