New York, SANA-Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Vassily Nebenzia affirmed the necessity to combat terrorist organizations in Idleb which continue to take civilians as human shields and continue to attack the neighboring areas and the posts of the Syrian army.
During a session of the Security Council on Wednesday, Nebenzia said that “terrorists of Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham and those who support them violate the de-escalation zone agreement and they attack the Syrian army and Hmeimim Airport, and these issues can’t escape punishment.”
“Russia supports the measures taken by the Syrian Army to get rid of the sources of these provocations, and it is worried about the movement of terrorists from Idleb to other areas in Syria and to other countries of the world such as Afghanistan and Libya,” Nebenzia added.
He warned against the danger of the threats made by terrorist organizations with regard to the use of chemical weapons in Idleb, saying, “They are doing that…We know this issue,” underlining the necessity to continue the efforts for combating terrorism till eradicating it from all the Syrian territories.
Nebenzia reiterated Russia’s firm stance that the Golan is an occupied Syrian land, saying “Washington yesterday published a document regarding the Middle East…This document should be considered in depth as we see that it contains a grave geographical mistake, therefore, we would like to remind the geographic experts who set this map and to inform them that we only recognize the Golan as an occupied Syrian land.”
The Chinese Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, for his part, underlined the necessity to preserve Syria’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity and not to interfere in its affairs, calling for supporting the political process in the country based on a Syrian leadership and ownership according to the resolution No. 2254.
He asserted the necessity to handle the file of foreign terrorists in Syria as they represent a huge problem which has many impacts on other states which entails cooperation among all for combating terrorism in all of its forms according to the Security Council’s relevant resolutions.
He also called for lifting the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed by some states on Syria.
