Washington, SANA- United States Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced that the articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump have been submitted to the Senate clearing the way for a trial with the aim of removing him from office.
The U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution on Wednesday to submit articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump to the Senate for a trial. The resolution passed largely along party lines by 228 votes to 193.
AFP quoted McConnell as saying on Thursday “Trump’s trial at the Senate will in earnest start next Tuesday.”
The trial will be under the supervision of Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts who will be sworn in as chief of the Parliamentary Court Authority before 100 senators will take oath to do “impartial justice” in the impeachment trial of President Trump as members of the jury.
Prior to signing the impeachment resolution in which the House of Representatives charged the Republican President of abusing power and obstructing the work of the Congress, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said: “It is very sad and tragic for our country that the measures the President has taken to undermine our national security and his breach of the constitutional responsibilities and his endangering the security of our elections have led us to this place.”
Trump’s trial comes at a critical time for his administration, as this year’s presidential election fever escalates.
