Kazakhstan FM: Agenda of next round of Astana talks involves bolstering political process

Moscow/Nur-Sultan, SANA – The Foreign Affairs Ministry of Kazakhstan said the agenda of the next round of Astana talks on Syria will involve bolstering the political process.

Ministry spokesperson Aibek Smadiyarov said in a statement to journalists on Monday that the agenda will include issues related to the situation on the ground in Syria, with emphasis on the situation in the Syrian al-Jazira area and Idleb province, as well as steps for building trust and promoting the political process in light of the launch of the committee for discussing the constitution.

He said that discussions will also cover humanitarian aid for Syria in light of the return of displaced people, adding that the delegations of the guarantor states and of the Syrian government and the opposition intend to participate in the next round of Astana talks, in which high-level representatives from the UN, Jordan, Lebanon, and Iraq will participate as observers.

The 14th round of Astana talks will be held in Nur-Sultan on December 10-11.
