Geneva, SANA- The Mini-Committee of the expanded body of the Committee of Discussing the Constitution on Tuesday continued its meetings at the UN headquarters in Geneva for the second day with the participation of the Syrian Government-backed delegation and other delegations.
In a statement to SANA delegate after the end of the morning session, member of the Syrian Government-backed delegation Jamal al-Qadiri said that the participating delegations started the second day of the activities of the Mini-Committee through discussing the agenda which was proposed on Monday by the Syrian Government-backed delegation to sort out the deliberations whether they are constitutional or political.
“There were many deliberations which were political and somehow very far from the essence of the issue,” al-Qadiri said.
He added that the meetings of the current week are assigned for sorting out the deliberations which were delivered during the meetings of the expanded meeting, in addition to shedding light on some terms which were proposed at the two meetings of the expanded committee.
For her part, Darin Suleiman, member of the Syrian Government-backed delegation said in a statement to SANA delegate “We agreed on that there will be an agenda for discussing the ideas and suggestions proposed during the meetings of the expanded committee to know whether they are suitable for starting the constitutional work, which means sorting out these ideas and suggestions.”
Suleiman noted that this was the suggestion of the Syrian Government-backed delegation “as there should be a suitable period for discussing these ideas and suggestions and for sorting them out whether they are suitable for the constitution or not.”
“Today, we started to review these ideas and suggestions, and discussions started on these ideas by the 45 members of the delegations which are participating in the meetings of the Mini-Committee,” she added.
She indicated that the delegation of the other parties is trying to take the talks to other places which are not related to the ideas and suggestions proposed during the meetings of the expanded committee, yet the government-backed delegation has always brought them back to their right track.
In the evening, the Mini-Committee will hold an evening session.
On Monday, the Mini-Committee held a meeting as sources close to the UN announced that the agenda of the current round of the activities of the committee which was proposed by the Syrian Government-backed delegation was approved.
The Mini-Committee consists of 45 members, 15 from the Syrian Government-backed delegation, 15 from members of the delegation of other parties, and 15 from members of the delegation representing civil society.
Last Friday, the expanded body of the Committee of Discussing the Constitution agreed on the members of the Mini-Committee and it approved a paper on the Code of Conduct and the measures which govern the work of the expanded and small bodies.
