SCO summit activities kick off with assertions on eradicating terrorism

Bishkek, SANA – Activities of the 19th session of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) kicked off on Friday at Kyrgyzstan Capital of Bishek.

Russian President, Vladimir Putin, stressed during the opening session of SCO that counterterrorism is a top priority, adding that Russia will continue to support Syria until eradicating terrorism from Idleb and all the other Syrian territories hit by terrorism.

He called upon the international community to support the efforts for reconstruction and the increase of humanitarian assistance away from politicization.

Putin also called for boosting the regional cooperation in the framework of the SCO for preventing financing terrorists through drug trafficking and preventing the reach of the chemical weapons and other sorts of weapons of mass destruction to the terrorists.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani pointed out to the need for combating terrorism, which is threatening stability worldwide, referring to Iran’s continued support to Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan in the war against terrorism, in addition to its efforts for halting aggression against Yemen.

SCO includes India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, as Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran and Mongolia are observers.

The next SCO summit is to be held on 22 and 23 of July, 2020 in the Russian city of Chelyabinsk.
