Damascus, SANA – The World Food Programme (WFP) provided 15 trucks, 2 SUVs, 23 protective vests, and a number of helmets to the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) to help the organization’s volunteers and workers to carry out their humanitarian tasks.
While receiving the items, head of the SARC Abdelrahman al-Attar thanked the WFP for its constant support for the organization, saying that this support will help ensure that SARC staff will continue their work and access everyone affected by the crisis.
In turn, WFP representative in Syria Matthew Hollingworth asserted the strength of the relations between the two organizations, saying that the “courage and dedication of SARC volunteers cannot be taken lightly.”
This is the second instance of the WFP providing support logistic to the SARC, with 20 trucks provided to the Red Crescent by the Programme last year.
The overall support provided by the WFP to the SARC is estimated at USD 4 million.
