Syrian delegation at IPU session affirms rejection of Turkish attempts to politicize return of displaced Syrians home

Geneva, SANA-Member of the People’s Assembly Gabriere Ranissian said that Turkey has contributed to the war on Syria since the beginning of the crisis and facilitated the transporting, arming and financing of terrorists and oversaw the theft of hundreds of plants from Aleppo and then transporting and selling them in Turkey.

The MP’s remarks came in response to the speech of President of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, Binali Yildirim who is also Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.

Ranissian is among a Syrian parliamentary delegation headed by Deputy Speaker of the People’s Assembly Najdat Anzour which is currently in the Swiss city of Geneva participating in the 139th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) under the theme of “Parliamentary Leadership in Promoting Peace and Development in the Age of Innovation and Technological Change.”

For his part, MP Samir al-Khatib affirmed Syria’s rejection of the Turkish attempts to politicize the return of Syrian refugees to their country by setting preconditions on the Syrian state as these attempts are considered a blatant interference in the internal affairs of Syria.

He warned in the same regard of the consequences of Turkish attacks on Syrian sovereignty.

During the coordination meeting of the Forum of Women Parliamentarians, the Syrian delegation explained the impact of seven-year war on Syria supported by Western, Arab and regional parties.

The delegation pointed out that many massacres were committed against the Syrians during the war years as the country’s infrastructure was destroyed, which led to the displacement of many citizens and making them vulnerable to violence and exploitation.

The IPU session which kicked off on Sunday will continue till October 18.

The participants have discussed a number of items on the agenda of the General Assembly and the Governing Council. They agreed on merging the two emergency items related to the cutting of aid for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and the humanitarian repercussions of this matter on the Palestinian people.
