Al-Sawah: Damascus International Fair this year the largest since its inception

Damascus, SANA-A third of the allotted area for Damascus International Fair stands is reserved for the local private sector, based on its belief in the Fair’s significance in promoting Syrian products and re-launching Syrian companies in foreign markets.

The 60th edition of Damascus International Fair is due to be launched on September 6.

Speaking to SANA reporter, Head of the Exporters’ Union Mohammad al-Sawah expected this year’s edition to be ‘distinguished’ given that it embodies a ‘remarkable economic triumph after eight years of war’, pointing out that the Fair this year is ‘the largest since its inception in the fifties’ in terms of the reserved spaces whose aggregate area exceeded 90 thousand square meters.

Asked about the preparations ahead of the 60th edition, al-Sawah said a committee was formed from the Industry, Trade and Exporters’ unions to work as one team for preparing the local private sector’s participation, amid non-stop efforts to invite businessmen and importers from 30 countries to participate in the Fair.

He pointed out that the largest number of real importers is from Iraq, Libya, Algeria, Jordan, Lebanon and Egypt, with the bulk of importers to benefit the textile and food sectors.

Al-Sawah hailed the government’s incentives for all participants in the Fair, particularly the private sector’s companies.
Many Syrian private companies signed export contracts during the Fair’s last edition, which led to an increase in production due to the large turnout that the 59th edition witnessed.
